How to rotate a laptop or PC screen using your keyboard

How to rotate a laptop or PC screen using your keyboard

If you’re running Windows 7 or 8, you may be able to quickly rotate your screen 90°, 180° or 270° at any time by pressing three keys.

Simply hold down Control + Alt and then select the arrow key for which way you want your laptop or PC screen to face.

Your monitor will then go briefly go blank and will return in a few seconds facing a different orientation. To restore this back to the traditional settings, press Control + Alt + the up arrow.

If this doesn't work, you'll need to use one of the methods below.

How to rotate a laptop or PC screen via Control Panel

Step one

Another way to rotate your screen is to right click the Windows desktop and select Screen Resolution from the dropdown menu that appears. Changing the screen orientation via Control Panel is equally simple. Press the Windows key and type in "Screen Resolution" then press enter.

Alternatively, if you're using Windows 7, you can click Start > Control Panel > Display > Screen Resolution.

Step two

From here select the monitor that you wish to rotate from the Display drop-down box and then finally select Portrait or Landscape in the Orientation field.

How to rotate a laptop or PC screen using Intel Graphics and Media Control Panel

You can also rotate a display using your graphics card’s control panel. (Note that there are too many different software suites to list the each one individually, so treat this as a general guide.)

A shortcut to your graphics control panel can be found in a couple of places. Right-clicking the desktop and selecting the appropriate option will give you access to the Intel, Nvidia or AMD graphics card control panels, but the graphics drivers and software often add icons to the system tray on the right-hand side of your taskbar. Double-clicking these icons, or right-clicking thereon, will normally give access to the control panel, and also often a wide range of other options, too. Handily, some also permit you to right click their respective icons and select screen rotation from a dropdown menu.

Once the relevant control panels are open, you'll need to peruse the 'display' or 'desktop' menus to find the rotation option for your monitor. The exact location varies from manufacturer to manufacturer, so a quick hunt around will soon locate the option you need.

The 10 Most Ridiculously Awesome Geeky Computer Pranks

Everybody loves a good prank… unless you are the one on the receiving end of the fun. It’s time to hone your pranking skills, not just to make sure you are the best, but so you can avoid being pranked by others.

Yeah, sure, we could go with the old standards, like a blue screen of death screensaver or something like that, but it’s time to use our geek skills and come up with something better. We’ll cover some of the old favorites too, but maybe with a twist. Note: Many of these pranks require being able to access somebody’s computer physically, and many others require them to leave their PC logged in and unattended. You’ll have to plan accordingly.

Make the Space Key Write the Word SPACE

Here’s a clever prank for you: Make the victim’s computer actually type the word “SPACE” every time they hit the space bar. They’ll be lost trying to figure out what on earth is going on, and it couldn’t be simpler.

Just create a new AutoHotkey script and drop in the following two lines of code—the first one is to hide the tray icon, and the second sets up the hotkey for replacing the text.

#NoTrayIcon
*Space::Send,SPACE

You’ll probably want to right-click on the script and compile it to an executable before putting it on their computer. I’m not providing a download for this! Just stick it somewhere on their PC, launch it, and watch the fun!

What’s really entertaining is that while I was testing this out, I accidentally pranked myself—my AHK scripts are stored in Dropbox and synced across all my PCs, and I’d forgotten about it on my desktop. Whoops!

Pretend to Install Linux on a Windows User’s PC with a Live CD

This one can’t be simpler—just find somebody at work who turns their PC off at night, come in before them, and boot off a Linux Live CD. Then leave an official-looking memo on their desk saying they’ve been upgraded to Linux, and watch them struggle to figure out what on earth they are doing. You’ll probably want to get rid of the Install icon, of course.

Create a Shutdown Shortcut that Looks like a Folder

This one is really simple to do—just create a shortcut to shutdown.exe on the desktop, and then change the icon to a regular folder, so when they double-click the folder to see what it might contain, they get a nice system shutdown notice instead. You can change the shutdown time to really far in the future so they won’t lose any work, but mostly so they get the full benefit of your nerd skills.

shutdown -s -t 1925000 -c “System error: overloaded porn folder”

If they are using XP, the effect is nice and dramatic, and you can even have some fun with the shutdown time… on Windows 7 you won’t be able to show off your geek skills quite as well, but they’ll still see something that will confuse them.

Note: on Windows 7 or Vista you’d also need to disable UAC or else they’ll see a prompt.

Switch the Keyboard Layout To DVORAK

If you really want to screw with somebody without installing anything, just enable the Dvorak alternate keyboard layout that even most geeks aren’t familiar with. When they type, everything will go haywire.

Head into Control Panel –> Region and Language –> Keyboards –> Change keyboards, then click the Add button and pick the Dvorak layout (or any other random layout you want). Once you’ve done that, use the drop-down above to set the default.

You’ll probably want to flip over to the Language Bar tab and set that to hidden as well, so they won’t be able to figure it out easily.

Plug a Wireless USB Mouse / Keyboard Into Their PC

This usually works out better if the other person has a desktop PC, because you can hide the wireless mouse or keyboard receiver behind their PC, and then every so often type an extra letter, or move the mouse slightly. If you do it right, you can have some fun with this one for a long time. The great thing is that this should work for almost anybody, including people that keep their computer locked all the time.

If they do have a laptop and a wireless mouse, you can simply replace their wireless mouse with an identical-looking one, since it won’t work for their PC. They’ll assume their mouse batteries are dead, and you can move the mouse pointer around the screen with their mouse. The prank won’t last as long, but it will be every bit as fun.

Stick a Message Into their System Clock

We’ve covered this before, but you can easily stick custom text into the clock that sits in the taskbar—and most people won’t have a clue how to switch it back. Just head into Control Panel –> Region and Language –> Additional Settings –> Time, and change the AM or PM symbols to whatever you want.

Reverse Their Trackpad or Mouse Wheel Scrolling

You can really throw somebody for a loop if you use a simple AutoHotkey script to flip their trackpad to scroll in the opposite direction. They’ll be completely confused! If they happen to have a laptop with a Synaptics touchpad, you can actually tweak this setting right in the Control Panel –> Mouse dialog, but otherwise, check out our article covering the script method, that should work anywhere.

Add Common Typos or Funny Words to MS Word’s Dictionary or AutoComplete

There’s any number of possibilities for this one, and the sky is really the limit—the idea is that you put something custom into the AutoCorrect so whatever they type gets replaced with something else.

You can go subtle with it, and just replace a properly typed word with a typo instead, or you can get in their face with something more fun—like making anytime they type their name end up replacing it with “<Name> is a jerk”. Loads of fun.

For Word 2007 or 2010, head to the Office button –> Options –> Proofing –> AutoCorrect Options. For previous versions… I have no idea. If you want this to be system-wide, you can use AutoHotkey instead.

Setup Task Scheduler Jobs to Launch Random Apps (or a Web Page)

Even a serious geek is going to be pretty lost on how to troubleshoot a new tab repeatedly opening to a certain page every couple of minutes, if you bury that inside the task scheduler. Just go in and create a new task, run through the wizard and pick the browser executable, plug the site name into the arguments box, and then set the schedule to repeat the task every 5 minutes.

Set the Mouse Pointer to Look Always Busy (to Make Their PC Look Like It’s Hanging)

Nice and simple, but oh so fun! Just head into Control Panel –> Mouse –> Pointers and change the Normal pointer to the busy one. They’ll think their computer is hanging all the time, but it’s really not. For extra fun, you could make the mouse pointers gigantic.

Activate High Contrast Mode (with a Single Hotkey!)

There’s a built-in accessibility option that can be very confusing to somebody who doesn’t know how to turn it off, and it requires only pressing one shortcut key sequence:

Shift + Alt + Printscreen

That’s it. Once you press that key combo, their desktop will get flipped to the high contrast mode—you can press it again to go back to normal. The great thing is that even if their computer is locked, you can enable high contrast with the icon on the lower left corner. On Mac OS X, you can press Ctrl+Opt+Cmd+8 to invert the screen’s colors.

The Old-School Favorite: Move the Desktop Icons, Take a Screenshot, Set as the Wallpaper

Most geeks have done this at some point in their career, because it’s both simple and irritating, especially for somebody who isn’t expecting it. The basic principle works one of a couple of ways:

1. Take a screenshot of the desktop with the icons where they are, set it as the wallpaper, and then hide the desktop icons.
2. Move the desktop icons around, or create bogus icons, take a screenshot, and then set it as the wallpaper. This way some icons work, and some don’t.
3. Take the screenshot of the desktop, and then hide the taskbar below the bottom of the screen before setting the wallpaper (this only works on XP). Even better: flip the image upside down before doing it.

The result looks something like the image above, assuming you followed the second idea and created a folder on the desktop that they’d be sure to notice right away. They’ll keep clicking, but nothing will happen.

Bonus? Combine this with the shutdown shortcut so when they do figure it out and try and open the folder… it’ll give them the shutdown prank too!

Alright, so that was actually twelve pranks. Prank wisely.

Best PC tricks and pranks

Everyone like to have a laugh and there's plenty of amusement to be had messing around with other people's PCs or laptops. Here are 10 harmless but brilliant Windows pranks.
Whether your intended victim is a computer whiz or a novice, these hilarious Windows PC pranks are great fun to try. These tricks will also teach you how to know when others are trying to prank you.
All of the tricks are reversible, and we'd recommend sticking around so you can 'fix' your victim's computer once the prank is over... or at least leave some instructions telling them how to undo what has been done!
1. Remove all desktop icons
This is the oldest, yet still the best PC prank. You'd be surprised how many people haven't seen this trick, and even if they have, it's still a good laugh.
All you need is a minute or two alone with their PC. Close or minimise all open applications and take a screenshot of the desktop. Pressing the PrtScrn or Print Screen button (you might need to also hold Shift if it's a dual-function key) takes the screenshot.
You then need to paste it into any image editing program (MS Paint will do) and save it somewhere.
Next, clear all the desktop icons into a folder somewhere and set the taskbar at the bottom to auto-hide (right click on it and choose Properties, then click 'Auto-hide the taskbar'.
Now head to the Control Panel and set the image as the desktop background. For a quicker way, right-click on the desktop and choose Properties in XP, or Personalize in Windows Vista, 7 or 8.

Sit back and watch as the unsuspecting user tries in vain to get their Start menu to open or launch and programs.
As a twist, you could leave one or two applications open on the desktop before you take the screenshot - perhaps a NSFW YouTube video if you're feeling particularly nasty.
2. Fun with mice
Gone are the days when you could quickly remove someone's mouse ball, but you can still stop their optical or laser mouse working properly by sticking a few layers of tape over the light underneath their mouse.
If you have more time, you can go to the Mouse Properties in the Control Panel (search Mouse in the Start menu for speed) and change a few settings to make life difficult.

First, switch the primary and secondary buttons. That's confusing enough, but you can also change the pointer (the Normal Select - the default pointer) to the Busy icon to make it seem like the PC isn't responding properly.
With some mice - and laptop touchpads - you can reverse the scroll direction, which will throw people when they try and scroll down a document or web page.
3. Keyboard layouts
Nothing is more frustrating than when the keys you press don't produce the letters you expect. To create confusion, head to your friend's PC and change the keyboard layout to Dvorak.
To do it quickly, search Keyboard Layout in the Start menu and click on 'Change keyboards or other input methods'. Then, if necessary, click Change keyboards.. and then Add. Scroll down and under English (United Kingdom) select United States-Dvorak (you might have to click Show more if you can't see it).

The Dvorak layout is completely different from Qwerty, so the user won't be able to even type their log-in password properly.

4. Auto-incorrect
Auto-correct is a great tool, and you can put it to uses the Microsoft never intended. Whether in Office or Outlook, you can find the auto-correct options in the Tools menu or, in later versions, under Options in the File menu.

Here, you can create custom entries and your imagination is the limit. You could auto-correct their name to something insulting, change a word they frequently miss-spell to an all-caps message ("IT'S DEFINITELY NOT DEFINATELY!!!!!") or you could be subtler and change a few common words to miss-spelt versions. Chances are, they won't notice until someone else - an email recipient perhaps - points it out.
If you opt for the latter trick, use it with caution.
5. Phantom drives
Back in the day, you could get a utility called Office Po ltergeist which let you do things to other PCs on the network such as opening the DVD drive and playing sounds. It's not available any more, and as it was a Trojan (a harmless one, but a Trojan nonetheless) anti-virus software tended to block it.
You can, however, create a quick script which will cause your friend or colleague's DVD drive to open and close.
Copy and paste this into Notepad:
Set oWMP = CreateObject("WMPlayer.OCX.7")
Set colCDROMs = oWMP.cdromCollection
do
if colCDROMs.Count >= 1 then
For i = 0 to colCDROMs.Count - 1
colCDROMs.Item(i).Eject
Next
For i = 0 to colCDROMs.Count - 1
colCDROMs.Item(i).Eject
Next
End If
wscript.sleep 10000
loop
Save it somewhere, then find it in Windows Explorer and change the extension from .txt to .vbs. Double-click it and any drives in the victim's PC will open and shut.

To stop this, you'll have to start the Task Manager and end the task 'Wscript' in the processes tab.

Next page: 5 more PC pranks and tricks
Everyone like to have a laugh and there's plenty of amusement to be had messing around with other people's PCs or laptops. Here are 10 harmless but brilliant Windows pranks.
6. Start Windows Narrator
A little-known Windows feature is Narrator - unless you're visually impaired that it. Narrator reads out everything you do on your PC, including typing and clicking. Simply search Narrator in the Start menu and run the program on your friend's PC or laptop.
For maximum fun, enable all of Narrator's options, including Start Narrator Minimized. If you're feeling cheeky, you can set Narrator to start with Windows, so it will continue to work even if they reboot their PC.

Turn their speakers up to an annoying level, and sit back and watch as they try and work out what's going on.
7. Restart the PC from a shortcut

This one should fox even advanced Windows users. Pick a shortcut to a program you know they use frequently (or change lots of shortcuts if you have time). A good one to go for is their preferred web browser, so do some spying before you try this prank.
Right-click on the shortcut and change its 'target' to:
"%windir%\system32\shutdown.exe -r -t 00"
Now, when they double-click on the shortcut, their computer will restart. Simple.
8. Fun with startup programs
As most people quickly discover, lots of programs load when Windows starts. Most are utilities - anti-virus, Skype, updaters and more. Typically, it all happens in the background and the only thing you notice is that your computer is a bit unresponsive for a minute or two after you first get to the desktop.
However, you can add a few more programs to your mate's startup folder that are a bit more obvious.

Under Windows XP, in Windows Explorer, go to:
C:\Documents and Settings\All users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
Or in Windows 7, head to:
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
Advertisement – story continues below

Here you can copy shortcuts to programs, or even include a text document with a nice (or naughty) welcome message.
9. Task Scheduler
You can have yet more fun with another innocent tool in Windows. Usually, Task Scheduler is used to run things like regular backups and disk defragging utilities.
It's pretty obvious that you can use it for nefarious purposes, such as scheduling programs to launch at inopportune moments.

You'll need a few minutes alone with the target PC. Search Task Scheduler in the Start menu and then Create a new task under the Action menu.
Under the Actions tab, you can choose to start a program, send an email or display a message, so there's plenty of amusement to be had if you have time to set up multiple tasks.
Under the Triggers tab you can click new and then choose when this bogus 'task' will happen.
With a bit of imagination, you can cause all sorts of havoc with this prank.
10. Extra keyboard and mouse
For an easy bit of office fun, plug in a USB dongle for a wireless keyboard and mouse and occasionally move the mouse
or type on the keyboard while your chosen victim is trying to work. They'll have no idea that a second keyboard and mouse is attached, and both with work at the same time.

Most have a range of a good few metres, so you should be able to stretch out the prank for a good while before you're caught.

Top 10 Windows 8 tips and tricks

TUpdate to Windows 8.1

Microsoft has released Windows 8.1, which is a free upgrade for anyone running Windows 8. This update addresses many of the problems users have had with Windows 8 and also adds a Start button. Visit Microsoft's Windows 8.1 page for the update.
Customize your tiles

Make the most of your Windows Start screen tiles by adjusting the sizes, where they are located, and what is listed.
Move any tile by clicking and dragging the tile. While moving a tile, if you need a larger view of the Start screen move the tile towards the top or bottom of the screen to zoom out.
Use your mouse wheel to scroll left-to-right through your tiles.
Any Desktop shortcut or program can be pinned to the Start screen by right-clicking the icon and choosing Pin to Start.
In the bottom right-hand corner of the start screen is a magnifying glass with tiles, click this icon to get a zoomed out view of your Start screen. In this view, if you right-click on a group of tiles you'll be given the option to name group, which can be useful if you have a group of related tiles (e.g. games). In this view, you can also click and drag a group to organize your tile groups.
Create a new speed bump between tile groups by moving a tile to a speed bump.
Resize any User tile or Live tile by right-clicking the tile and choosing resize.
If there is a tile you want on your Taskbar, right-click the tile and choose Pin to taskbar.
Show admin applications on the Start screen by clicking Settings in Charms, click Settings, and change the Show administrative tools from No to Yes.
In Internet Explorer 10, you can also pin any of your favorite web pages to your Start Screen.
Windows 8 keyboard shortcuts

Knowing at least some of the Windows 8 keyboard shortcuts helps make your Windows 8 experience much more enjoyable. Try to memorize these top Windows 8 shortcut keys.
Press the Windows key to open the Start screen or switch to the Desktop (if open).
Press the Windows key + D opens the Windows Desktop.
Press the Windows key + . to pin and unpin Windows apps on the side of the screen.
Press the Windows key + X to open the power user menu, which gives you access to many of the features most power users would want (e.g. Device Manager and Command Prompt).
Press the Windows key + C to open the Charms.
Press the Windows key + I to open the Settings, which is the same Settings found in Charms.
Press and hold the Windows key + Tab to show open apps.
Press the Windows key + Print screen to create a screen shot, which is automatically saved into your My Pictures folder.
See our Windows shortcuts page for a full listing of all Windows shortcuts.
Know your hot corners

The corners on your screen are hot corners and give you access to different Windows features. Below, is a brief explanation of each of these corners.
Bottom Left-hand corner
The bottom left-hand hot corner of the screen allows you to access the Start screen, if you're in the Start screen and have the Desktop open, this corner opens the Desktop from the Start screen.
Tip: Right-clicking in the left hand corner opens the power user menu.
Top-left corner of the screen
Moving the mouse to the top-left corner and then down displays all the apps running on the computer. Clicking and dragging any of these apps to the left or right-hand side of the screen will snap that app to that side of the screen. Each of these open app icons can also be right-clicked to close or snap.
Right-hand side of the screen
On the full right-hand side of the screen will be given access to the Windows Charms.
Taking advantage of search

The Search in Windows 8 has been significantly improved when compared to all previous versions of Windows. To search for a file or run a program in Windows 8 from the Start screen just start typing what you're trying to find or want to run.
As you begin typing, the results will start appearing on the left-hand side. In addition to being able to search for files and run prog rams, the Search also supports limiting the search to apps such as Finance, People, Maps, Photos, Mail, Music, Videos, Weather, and much more. If what you are searching for is not a file or program, click on the app you want to use as the search. For example, if you were searching for "New York" and selected the Weather App you would be shown the weather in New York, NY.
By default, Search organizes the available Apps by how frequently they are used and then in alphabetical order. If you want to keep your favorite app at the top of the Search list, right-click the app and choose Pin. Pinning the app will lock it in place regardless of how often it is used. If there is an app you don't want (e.g. Finance) you can turn on and off any of the search apps through the PC settings, which is found under the Settings in the Charms.
Bonus tip: The Search is also found through Charms and can also be opened by pressing Windows key + F.
Running two apps side by side

Any app can be pinned to the left or right-hand side of the screen. For example, open the People app and then press the Windows Key + . (period) to move that app to the right-hand side of the screen, pressing the same keys again will move it to the left-hand side, and pressing the same keys again makes it full screen. While an app is pinned, any other app or program can be opened and loaded into the available space on the screen. For example, in the picture below, we've opened a browser window and have the People app running to monitor our social networks.

Any open app can also be pinned using your mouse by clicking at the top of the tile and dragging it to the left or right-hand side of the screen.
Bonus tip: The Desktop can also be pinned to the left or right-hand side of the screen.
Note: In order for snap to work properly your resolution must be at least 1,366 x 768.
Windows 8 Task Manager

The Windows 8 Task Manager has been significantly improved over previous versions of Windows. Some of the new changes include showing a total percent usage at the top of your Processes, which makes it easier to determine total memory and CPU usage, improved Performance graphs, a Startup tab to see startup processes and their impact to system performance, and the App history tab (as shown below) that gives you the total resources an app has used over a period of time. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to start exploring the new Task Manager.

Use a picture password to log into your computer

Windows 8 includes a new feature called Picture password, which allows you to authenticate with the computer using a series of gestures that include circles, straight lines, and taps. Enable this feature if you want a new way to access your computer or have a hard time with passwords.
Open the Windows Charms.
Click Settings and then More PC settings
In the PC settings window click Users and then select Create a picture password
Bonus tip: A four digit pin password can also be created and used to access your computer.
Take advantage of Windows 8 apps

Windows 8 comes included with several apps to help you get the most from your computer. Below are just a few of the included apps.
People
Microsoft touts the People feature in Windows 8 because they understand how many people are using social networks today. In the People feature you'll be able to connect your Windows computer to all the major social networks including Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter. Once connected, you can pin the people app and monitor your social network (as shown below), use People in Search to find people, and get an overview of what is happening in all your social networks.

Reader
The Reader app gives you PDF support right out of the box.
SkyDrive
The SkyDrive app gives you access to the Microsoft cloud service SkyDrive, which allows you to store your photos, documents, and other files in the cloud and access or share those files with any computer with Internet access.

YouTube keyboard shortcuts.

Your computer and programs running on your computer are not the only places keyboard shortcuts can be used. Many online services like YouTube also have keyboard shortcuts that can be used. Below is a listing of keys you can use on your keyboard to control YouTube videos.
Note: The YouTube video and window must be active. If these keys are not working, click the video to make sure it is selected. Switching between windows, changing tabs in your browser, or performing other actions like making a comment unselects the video.
Play and pause a video

Press the space bar or the 'k' key on your keyboard to play and pause a video.
Tip: Holding down either of these keys also plays the video in slow motion.
Jump to start of a video

Pressing the 0 (zero) key on your keyboard will jump to the beginning of a video. The home key also works for jumping to the start of a video.
Jump to the end of a video or go to the next video

Pressing the end key on your keyboard will go to the end of the video. If you are playing a playlist, it goes to the next video in the playlist.
Skip or jump in the video

Fast forward or rewind
If you want to fast forward or rewind in increments of five seconds, press the left or right arrow keys. If you need to jump more than five seconds hold down the Ctrl key and press the arrow key for the direction you want to jump in ten second increments.
Pressing the number keys from 1 to 9 seeks (jumps) to that percentage of the video. In other words 1 jumps to 10%, 2 jumps to 20%, 3 jumps to 30%, etc.
Make the video full-screen

Pressing 'f' on the keyboard switches between full-screen and normal mode.
Tip: Pressing Esc also exits full-screen mode.
Turn up and down the volume

Pressing the up or down arrow keys turns up and down the volume of the video. If you are turning down the volume and continue to hold the down arrow key, it will eventually mute the volume.
Tip: Pressing 'm' on the keyboard also mutes and unmutes the volume.

Funny Prank(s) (With VBS)

Other than pancakes and doing things that other people can't, pranking people is pretty fun. This Instructable combines two of the previously mentioned things (sorry guys, no pancakes). With the wonderful powers of programming, you can play the most sneaky and hilarious pranks on your friends. A few things are required to pull this prank.
1) A computer
2) Half a brain (more or less)
3) A friend who
        a. Has a computer
        b. Isn't very good with computers
        c. Has a sense of humor and won't react badly to pranks.
If you fit these criteria, you've got what it takes to pull some hilarious pranks that will leave you (and hopefully your friend) laughing.

STEP 1: SET UP

While an actual knowledge of how to make VBS files is not necessary, you do need to know how to save one. Most of you probably know, but I'll do a recap anyway.
right-click>open a new text document>file>save as>change *.txt to all files>save as prank.vbs
For this prank to work best, your friend can't be too computer savvy. So if your friend knows about stuff like VBS or other computer languages, it probably wouldn't be as funny. Also, this prank works best if your friends user on his Windows (yes, Windows is necessary) computer doesn't have a password. But even if your friend's user does have a password, variations on the prank will work.
STEP 2: THE CODE

Since this is a programming prank, actual programming is required (duh). This is a VBS prank, so the code required for this isn't quite as complex as it could be (seeing how it's a fairly simple prank). I went over how to save a VBS file in the previous step. This is the code:
dim
x=MsgBox("You've been hacked *your friend's name here*!",4144,"Haha!")
x=MsgBox("Preparing virus",4144,"WARNING!")
x=MsgBox("Do you want the virus to activate?",4132,"VIRUS ACTIVATION")
x=MsgBox("Did you really think that would work?",4132,"HOW DUMB ARE YOU?")
x=MsgBox("Virus activating...",4144,"YOUR DOOM DRAWS NEAR!!!")
x=MsgBox("Just joking!",4144,"YOU'VE BEEN PRANKED!!!")

If you understand VBS, you know what this does. But this isn't the only way to use VBS. The prank uses the same basic concept of text boxes to scare your friend, but the way you implement it and the text is subject to change. The next two steps show you how to do this.
STEP 3: IMPLEMENTATION

Using the code in the previous step, you can fool your friends in a bunch of ways. This step will not only tell you how to pull off these pranks.

The Startup:
This method will only work on people who don't have passwords on their user accounts. This is what you do:
        1. Go into your friends account.
        2. Hit start
        3. Go to all programs
        4. Find the "Startup" folder and right-click on it
        5. Copy and paste (or move) the VBS file into the folder (copying is recommended since it let's you save a copy just in case something goes wrong.
        6. The next time your fiend logs into their account, the prank will appear.

The Startup is my favorite way to play this prank since it's almost foolproof. Unfortunately, it requires a friend who is not good with computers and doesn't know how to set a password (or just chooses not to) and a lot of luck. Here are a few ways this could go:

Example:

Friend: This is my computer.
You: Great! Why don't you type in your password and we can watch a couple of videos!
Friend: Not necessary dude, I don't really know how to set a password.
You: Oh... *smirks*
Friend: Oh! Hold on a sec, I'll go get some snacks, don't log in until I get back! *runs off*
You: *goes on computer and types like the wind*/*suavely takes out flash drive and inserts it into computer* *accesses startup folder* *logs off*
Friend: *walks into room with snacks* I'm back, let's watch!
You: Hold on sec, I've gotta go to the bathroom, login while I'm gone.
Friend: Okay, down the hall, the second one on the right!
You: *rushes off, smirking* *returns a minute or two later*
Friend: *laughing* Wow man, that was a good one up top!

How to turn a laptop into an alarm clock

After I realized I had an old Dell Inspiron Mini that was really slow, I decided that since no one used it, it would be perfect to turn into an alarm clock.

STEP 1: GET THE SOFTWARE

First, you'll need a clock screensaver. (skip this part if you don't want the clock but want the alarm)There are many different ones you can get, but for this one i'll be using this flip clock. If you are going to use this one installation is simple, just unzip after downloading and run the .exe file on windows or use the DMG file on Mac. But since I was running Windows 7 Starter, I had to use a program called Starter Background Changer to set it. On any other version of Windows you can set through the personalization settings in the control panel. To set the alarm, I used a program called Free Alarm Clock for Windows. You can find it here: http://freealarmclocksoftware.com/ You can use similar programs if you have a Mac. Just Google Alarm Clock for Mac. If you are not going to use the screensaver, you can just set the alarm and leave the laptop on or you can look online for tutorials to set it while leaving the laptop on sleep mode.

STEP 2: SETTING THE ALARM

Setting the alarm is straightforward, so you can probably figure it out on your own. But there is a reason I chose this software, and that reason is that you can use music files or .m3u and .plst playlists. You can of course use the music files to wake up to your favorite songs, but you can use .m3u and .plst playlists to listen to your favorite radio station. Just Google your station and scroll through streaming services until you find one that has the playlist files for download. You probably already have a media player to play these files, but if you can't use something like VLC Media Player. Just set your files in the app and you're good to go.

A introduction to VBScript Programming

VBScript is a simple programming language executed by Windows Script Host it can Be coded with Notepad or Notepad++
its extension is .vbs and can be executed on ANY windows machine VBS stands for Visual Basic Script therefore it is basic so no
icons / images can be used with it. Over the years computing has become more common and complicated VBScript is used in SO
many applications it is normally used for message boxes (Msgbox) or input boxes (inputbox) keep in mind it is A LOT more simple than C++ C# or executable files (Applications) .

STEP 1: MAKING A VBSCRIPT ERROR MESSAGE

1. First open Notepad then copy this : msgbox("message here"),4+16,("title here") into notepad.
2. Save The file as whatever.vbs
3.Open The File it should look like this:
STEP 2: EDITING THE ERROR

Now you can edit the message e.g msgbox("highvoltageguy"),4+16,("instructables") That will look like:
STEP 3: INPUT BOXES

Now here's where VBScript gets fun here's an example : inputbox("Sup"),,("inputbox") save as yourname.vbs start it and what do you see an inputbox! (if it worked) now you know basic programming!

Fun with Easy VBS!

A Beginners guide to fun, and easy to do visual basic script. VSB may seem hard to some, but in fact it is really easy. Windows can even run it without a compiler! If you know javascript, it should be really easy for you.

STEP 1: BASIC MESSAGE BOXES

Ok so lets go over the Basics.

Have you ever seen a message box like the one below,
you probaly have. These are used to alert users of whatever you want to say.

You can create your own by using the Function Msgbox

So the code to a message box that says hi would look like this,

Msgbox("hi")

Alternately you can make an unkillable message box by making a simple loop by using the Do, Loop commands.

Now that we covered message boxes, lets move to more advanced message boxes.
STEP 2: GAMES AND STUFF

If you ever wonder how to make text games than look no further. I might be wrong, but I believe that they used vbs. Now a lot of vb scripts use a compiler, but windows doesn't need one. Just type cscript before the file path, now if you know how to make bat files, then you can automate this process, but we wont get into that in this instructable.

Here is a little game i made

Option Explicit

Dim Answer

'types the question

Wscript.StdOut.Write "Nice Day Isin't it? "
answer = Wscript.StdIn.ReadLine

'if you type yes t

If answer="yes" Then
Wscript.echo ("I hope it stays this way")

'If you type no

ElseIf answer="no" Then

Wscript.echo ("I hope it gets better")

'anything else

Else

Wscript.Echo ("GoodDay to you")

'end

End If

now basically save this as .vbs and use the method before to run it.
STEP 3: THE AUTO TYPER

This code it to type something over and over again. I don't know how it is useful, but if you run it, you'll have to kill it in the task list

set shellobj = CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
shellobj.run "cmd"

do

shellobj.sendkeys "Y"
wscript.sleep 200
Shellobj.sendkeys "o "
wscript.sleep 200

loop

How to make an "SECRET" Folder on your computer

Here is an instructables on How to make an "SECRET" Folder on your computer. This is useful when you're using a computer that many other people use. e.g family and friends. With these steps, the file is invisible because we are not hiding it, we are just give it a transparent icon and a space at its name, but someone can select it if they know where it is in desktop or any folder.

STEP 1: THE FIRST STEP. PERIOD.

Create a new folder in your specified directory. I will be taking this on the Desktop.

Right Click -> New -> Folder, and a new folder will be created in that directory. Rename that folder.

Here's the trick--- you have to press Alt + 255. Keep holding 'Alt' while pressing those numbers. Holding the Alt and typing those numbers will name the folder as a space, pretty much giving it no name.

STEP 2: THE SECOND STEP. PERIOD.

Right Click the Unnamed folder, go to Properties, then to Customize, and then click Change Icon. Here is the trick, go to the middle and you should see some blank spaces. Those are transparent icons, select one of those then press OK -> Apply -> OK.

STEP 3: A TIP. PERIOD.

For it to work on your laptop, you need to keep holding down the Alt key. You will also need to hold the FN(function) key and type the numbers "255." These are over the letters k, i, i. Let go of all of the keys and hit enter. Holding the Alt and typing those numbers will name the folder as a space, pretty much giving it no name.

P.S.- Make sure num lock is 'on' if on laptops.

STEP 4: OH SNAP!

Enjoy your folder(s) while keeping them hidden...!

To show your hidden files/folder/icon, do the following:

Double click Computer icon, Click tools, then folder options. When the window pops up, click view on the top tab. Then look for the show hidden files and folder. And when you have found it, click on show hidden files and folderClick apply or ok.Voila! your file and folder appeared. This method works BETTER with the transparent icons.

How to freak out your friends (with their computer) [Tricks and Fun Volume 1]

In this instructable I will show you how to do stuff on anyone's computer and freak them out!

Note: Please read the instructions carefully before trying to attempt this. No harm can be caused by this .vbs file. If you use the instructions wrongly (i.e mistake in typing codes) i will not be held for anything.

The first instructable will show you how to make a message box that comes alot of times onto the screen.
What the message box says is up to you.

You will need about 4-9 minutes to do (one of these) so try to convince your friend to let you use the computer alone for a while, or, do this when they are at the washroom!

Now, lets continue with the Instructables!!

STEP 1:

STEP 2: STEP ONE: OPENING NOTEPAD AND OTHER INFORMATION [FAKE VIRUS FUN (1)]

Step One:

Open Notepad by going to start > run > type notepad > enter. or by start > all programs > accessories > Notepad.

Then, write this code

msgbox "Windows has encountered an serious error and cannot continue.",89, "ERROR"

IMPORTANT NOTE: You MUST put all of the code on one line and not like this (for example):

msgbox "Windows has encountered an serious
error and cannot continue.",89, "ERROR".

If you wish to write your own message, then just replace the Windows has encountered an serious error and cannot continue. with your message.
STEP 3: STEP TWO: THE CRITICAL (WELL, NOT SO REALLY...) PART!

Step Two:

First we Copy the file that we saved, then , we go to....

Start > All programs > Startup.

Once we see the folder "Startup" we double click it. Once you do that you will see the "Startup" folder.

[Continue to step 3, and don't close that folder!!!]
STEP 4: STEP 3: THE NOT SO HARD PART -COPY & PASTE-

Step 3:

you already copied the file into the Startup folder right? ok you did.

Now, copy the File again and paste it into the startup folder as many times as you like. After that,
anyone that opens that user will get those messages (as many times as you opened it) each time he/she turns on her computer.

STEP 5: THE RESULT!!!

The Result will be ALOT of messages making your friend think theirs a virus on his/her computer!

Pop up message trick

Hi everyone!
Here is a fun, funny, and easy way to annoy your friends and family members by (harmlessly) messing with their computers. This one is a simple batch file that makes a message box pop up that says anything you want. The trick: no matter how many times you click OK, the message will never go away! Have fun!

STEP 1: THE BATCH FILE

1: Open notepad (under Start > All Programs > Accesories > Notepad
Copy and paste these lines into Notepad:

@echo off
:top
msg * Insert your message here
goto top

Be sure to delete "insert your message here" and replace it with your own message!

STEP 2: SAVING THE FILE

Go to File and click Save As.

First look at "Save as File Type" near the bottom. It should say "Text Documents". Change it to "All Files".

Type the name of your file into the "File Name" box, and be sure to end it with ".bat" instead of ".txt"

Save it to your "My Documents" folder.

STEP 3: THE FUNNY PART

Now, if you click on the batch file (which should look like a box with a gear inside it) in your Documents folder, the message should pop up. It will only go away if you restart the computer.

To make it begin automatically when you (or someone else) logs in, copy the file from the Documents folder.

Go to "My Computer", then go to:
Local Disk > Documents and Settings > (Username of Person you want to annoy) > Start Menu > Programs > Startup.

Paste the batch file  into the Startup folder.

Now it will run whenever they log in, and the person will never be able to find it!

How to Overclock Your Graphics Card

Many PC gamers eagerly await the release of next-generation graphics cards, hoping that the new hardware will boost frame rates and enhance eye candy in the latest games. However, while a graphics card upgrade is almost always a good way to increase game performance or improve image quality, new cards tend to be expensive--and they aren’t always necessary.

Today, even midrange graphics cards are generally fast enough to pump out buttery-smooth frame rates in cutting-edge games at all but the highest resolutions. If your current graphics card is serving you well, and you’re just looking for a little something extra to increase performance, overclocking may be the better way to go. And it will certainly be more affordable.

Why Overclock?

In its early days, overclocking may have been a black art reserved for the most hard-core computer geeks, but nowadays it’s about as easy as can be, and it’s usually safe too. Yes, overclocking a component can shorten its life span. But if you don’t push things too far, and if you keep temperatures under control, you have little reason to worry.

You’ll want to make sure that your system has adequate cooling and a power supply that’s sufficient for handling an overclocked card. Modern graphics cards typically have thermally controlled fans that will spin faster to better dissipate heat from the overclocked board. The card may become somewhat noisy as a result, but if the overclock remains stable and the graphics card’s cooler can keep up, you should be good to go.

Both AMD and Nvidia (the big two graphics-card makers) have built overclocking tools into their drivers. AMD’s are readily available (on supported cards) in the AMD Overdrive tab, listed in the Performance section of the company’s Catalyst Control Center software suite. Nvidia’s overclocking tools aren’t exposed by default in its GeForce drivers, but installing its System Tools utility will make them available. You’ll need to grab the Systems Tools utility from the Nvidia website; once you've installed the utility, frequency controls will be visible in the performance and tuning section of the GeForce driver.

Disregarding software/driver optimizations, game engine tweaks, and system interface speeds, the performance of a graphics card is typically determined by the compute speed and fillrate of its graphics processing unit, as well as by the amount of memory bandwidth its frame buffer memory affords. (The amount of frame buffer memory on the card can also come into play as resolutions and texture sizes increase, but that’s a discussion for a different article.) By increasing the frequencies of the GPU and the frame buffer memory on your graphics card, you can make them process and move more data, more quickly, increasing overall performance.

How to Overclock ?

Overclocking a graphics card is a fairly straightforward process. All you need is a working and properly configured graphics card, and a few of your favorite games or a benchmark like Futuremark 3DMark 11 to test stability. For the purposes of this article, we used a brand-new AMD Radeon HD 7950 installed in a high-end, Intel-powered test rig running Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit).
Before you begin overclocking, install the latest drivers for your graphics card (and Nvidia’s System Tools if necessary), and play a few games to ensure that the system is stable. If all is working well, restart the system, open the graphics card’s control panel, and navigate to the overclocking or frequency control section; we used the Overdrive tab built into AMD’s drivers.

First, enable Overdrive by ticking the necessary box, and max out the power control settings to eliminate any power-related frequency restrictions. Next, increase the GPU frequency by moving the appropriate slider by a few MHz at a time, and apply the settings. Then, play a game or loop a benchmark to test stability.

For example, our Radeon HD 7950’s GPU was clocked at 800MHz by default. We started by moving the GPU clock settings slider in 10MHz increments, until our test system became unstable. That is, once we encountered any visual anomalies, or a game or the system crashed, we turned the GPU frequency back down by 10MHz and tested for stability again. Ultimately we settled on a stable GPU frequency of 1000MHz--an increase of 200MHz over stock.

With our peak GPU frequency known, we set it back to its default clock speed and then focused on the graphics card’s memory. By default, the Radeon HD 7950’s memory is clocked at 1250MHz. We used the same procedure of increasing the memory frequency by 10MHz at a time, testing stability each step of the way. In the end we achieved a stable memory frequency of 1500MHz.

We recommend overclocking the GPU and memory individually to isolate any instability that the tweaks may introduce to that particular component. Once you know the peak frequency for both, set the GPU and memory to those speeds simultaneously and test for stability once more. If all is well, enjoy your newfound performance. If not, back the frequencies down a bit further for both, and test the graphics card again. I must also point out that some graphics cards may remain stable while overclocked, but offer lower performance when running at higher frequencies due to thermal or power throttling. If your system remains stable but the performance degrades while you're overclocking, reduce the GPU and memory frequencies until performance begins to scale properly.

Facebook Hacking Course

Facebook Hacking Course you shocked? Well, many irritated hacking pseudo-experts asked me such a question.

Thanks to the media, the word “hacker” has gotten a bad reputation. The word summons up thoughts of malicious computer users finding new ways to pharass people, defraud corporations, steal information and maybe even destroy the economy or start a war by infiltrating military computer systems. While there’s no denying that there are hackers out there with bad intentions, they make up only a small percentage of the hacker community.

This is the picture of a hacker. Fortunately, it's the one created by the media. Considering the definition above, this course should be entitled "Anti Facebook Hacking Course", as it has nothing to do with the media nonsense. Let me explain you why.

What is this Facebook Hacking Course really about?

What is RAT? ( Remote Access Trojan or Remote Administration Tool )

RAT stands for Remote Access Trojan or Remote Administration Tool. It is one of the most dangerous virus out their over the internet. Hacker can use RAT to get complete control to your computer. He can do basically anything with your computer. Using RAT hacker can install keylogger and other malicious viruses remotely to your computer, infect files on your system and more. In this post i will tell you about what hacker can do with your computer using RAT and tell you about some commonly use RAT by hackers.

What is RAT ?

As i have told you in my introduction paragraph RAT is Remote Access trojan. It is a peace of software or program which hacker uses to get complete control of your computer. It can be send to you in form of images, videos or any other files. Their are some RAT that even your antivirus software can not detect.  So always be sure about what you are downloading from the internet and never save or download files that anonymous user send you  over the mail or in chat room.

What You Can do With RAT ?

Once a RAT is installed on any computer hacker can do almost anything with that computer. Some malicious task that you can do with RAT are listed below:
Infecting Files
Installing Keyloggers
Controlling Computer
Remotely start webcam, sounds, movies etc
Using your PC to attack Website (DDOS)
View Screen
Harmless RAT or Good RAT

As you have seen how harmfull RAT are for your computer, but their are some good RAT which some of you might be using daily. You might have heard of TeamViewer, it is a software which you use to control some one's computer with his permission for file transfer, sharing your screen and more.

Some Commonly Used RAT

ProRAT
CyberGate RAT
DarkComet RAT

HTTP/2.0

HTTP/2 (originally named HTTP/2.0) is the second major version of the HTTP network protocol used by the World Wide Web. It is based on SPDY. HTTP/2 is being developed by the Hypertext Transfer Protocol working group (httpbis, where bis means "repeat" or "twice") of the Internet Engineering Task Force. HTTP/2 would be the first new version of HTTP since HTTP 1.1, which was standardized in RFC 2616 in 1999. The Working Group presented HTTP/2 to IESG for consideration as a Proposed Standard in December 2014, and IESG approved it to publish as Proposed Standard on Feb 17, 2015.
The standardization effort came as an answer to SPDY, an HTTP-compatible protocol developed by Google[7] and supported in Chrome, Opera, Firefox, Internet Explorer 11, Safari, and Amazon Silk browsers.
GOALS
The working group charter mentions several goals and issues of concern:
1. Negotiation mechanism that allows clients and servers to elect to use HTTP 1.1, 2.0, or potentially other non-HTTP protocols.
2. Maintain high-level compatibility with HTTP 1.1 (for example with methods, status codes, and URIs, and most header fields)
Decrease latency to improve page load speed in web browsers by considering:
1. Data compression of HTTP headers
2. Server push technologies
3. Fixing the head-of-line blocking problem in HTTP 1
4. Loading page elements in parallel over a single TCP connection
5. Support common existing use cases of HTTP, such as desktop web browsers, mobile web browsers, web APIs, web servers at various scales, proxy servers, reverse proxy servers, firewalls, and content delivery networks
Different from HTTP 1.1
The proposed changes do not require any changes to how existing web applications work, but new applications can take advantage of new features for increased speed.
HTTP/2 leaves most of HTTP 1.1's high level syntax, such as methods, status codes, header fields, and URIs, the same. The element that is modified is how the data is framed and transported between the client and the server.
Websites that are efficient minimize the number of requests required to render an entire page by minifying (reducing the amount of code and packing smaller pieces of code into bundles, without reducing its ability to function) resources such as images and scripts. However, minification is not necessarily convenient nor efficient, and may still require separate HTTP connections to get the page and the minified resources. HTTP/2 allows the server to "push" content, that is, to respond with data for more queries than the client requested. This allows the server to supply data it knows a web browser will need to render a web page, without waiting for the browser to examine the first response, and without the overhead of an additional request cycle.
Additional performance improvements in the first draft of HTTP/2 (which was a copy of SPDY) come from multiplexing of requests and responses to avoid the head-of-line blocking problem in HTTP 1 (even when HTTP pipelining is used), header compression, and prioritization of requests.
Genesis in and later differences from SPDY
SPDY (pronounced speedy) is a research project spearheaded by Google that is also an applicable protocol, designed for the transportation of information and other content on the web. SPDY primarily focuses on reducing latency. SPDY uses the same TCP pipe but different protocols to accomplish this reduction. The basic changes made to HTTP 1.1 to create SPDY include: "true request pipelining without FIFO restrictions, message framing mechanism to simplify client and server development, mandatory compression (including headers), priority scheduling, and even bi-directional communication".
The httpbis working group considered Google's  SPDY protocol, Microsoft's HTTP Speed+Mobility proposal (SPDY based), and Network-Friendly HTTP Upgrade. In July 2012 Facebook provided feedback on each of the proposals and recommended HTTP/2 be based on SPDY. The initial draft of HTTP/2 was published in November 2012 and is based on a straight copy of SPDY.
The biggest difference between HTTP and SPDY, is that each user action in SPDY is given a "stream ID", meaning there is a single TCP channel connecting the user to the server. SPDY splits requests into either control or data, which is a “parse binary protocol with two types of "frames". SPDY has shown evident improvement from HTTP, with a new page load speedup ranging from 11.81% to 47.7%.
HTTP/2 uses SPDY as a jumping-off point; though SPDY is an improvement on HTTP 1.1, it does have some limitations. SPDY communicates separately with each host, which means that multiplexing happens only at one host at a time, no matter how many connections are open. This means that SPDY can only download things from one host at a time. The improvement HTTP/2 makes on this is that it allows multiplexing to happen at different hosts at the same time. This makes downloading multiple web pages or content from the Internet significantly faster.
HTTP/2 also uses a fixed Huffman code-based header compression algorithm, instead of SPDY's dynamic stream-based compression. This helps to reduce the potential for attacks on the protocol.
On February 9, 2015, Google announced plans to remove support for SPDY in Chrome by early 2016, in favor of support for HTTP/2, starting with Chrome 40.
Encryption
HTTP/2 is defined for both HTTP URIs (for now in the clear) and for HTTPS URIs (over TLS, where TLS 1.2 or newer is required). Some implementations, such as Firefox, have stated that they will only support HTTP/2 when it is used over an encrypted connection.
Criticisms
As of the January 2015 last call, the HTTP/2 protocol is being criticised for not supporting opportunistic encryption, a feature like STARTTLS that has long been available in other internet protocols like SMTP. Poul-Henning Kamp, lead developer of varnish HTTP accelerator and a senior FreeBSD kernel developer, has criticised IETF for following a particular political agenda with HTTP/2.  It has also been pointed out that the HTTP/2 proposal goes in violation of IETF's own RFC7258 "Pervasive Monitoring Is an Attack", which also has a status of Best Current Practice 188. RFC7258/BCP188 mandates that passive monitoring be considered as an attack, and protocols designed by IETF should take steps to protect against passive monitoring (for example, through the use of opportunistic encryption). A number of specifications for opportunistic encryption of HTTP/2 have been provided, of which draft-ietf-httpbis-http2-encryption-01 is an official work item of the working group.
The criticism of the agenda of mandatory encryption within the existing certificate framework (as opposed to opportunistic encryption) is not new, nor is it unique to members of the open-source community – a Cisco employee pointed out in 2013 that the present certificate model is not compatible with small devices like the routers, because the present model requires not only annual enrollment and remission of non-trivial fees for each certificate, but must be continually repeated on an annual basis. It is noteworthy that even though the mandatory encryption that has been criticized by an agent of the industry leader in 2013 has not been made mandatory as part of the standard, as of early 2015 the agenda has nonetheless been carried over by the leading browser makers, who have thus far refused to implement HTTP/2 without encryption.
Browser support
Chrome supports HTTP/2, but it is not enabled by default. To turn on HTTP/2 support, a command line flag "--enable-spdy4" needs to be specified when launching Chrome. Currently only HTTP/2 over TLS is implemented. As of February 2015, Google plans to fully implement HTTP/2 in future versions of its Chrome browser, effectively dumping support for SPDY.
Firefox supports HTTP/2 which has been enabled by default since version 36. Experimental support for HTTP/2 was originally added in version 34. Currently only HTTP/2 over TLS is implemented.
Internet Explorer supports HTTP/2 in version 11, but only for Windows 10 beta, and is enabled by default. Currently only HTTP/2 over TLS is implemented.
HTTP/HTTPS servers
Support
IIS supports HTTP/2 in Windows 10 beta
OpenLiteSpeed 1.3.8 and 1.4.5 support HTTP/2 draft 17
SPDY, but no HTTP/2
Apache provides support for SPDY via the mod_spdy module
LiteSpeed Web Server currently supports SPDY/3.1
nginx provides experimental support for SPDY (Draft 3.1) via a module
